New South Wales (NSW) police is drafting a new policy under which no officer would be allowed to sport any visible tattoos on their body.

This step is part of NSW's comprehensive reform of the police force's public image set to begin this year, News.com.au reports.

A draft policy, which is being prepared for Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione, is in the final stages of authorization and advocates banning all visible tattoos on serving police and new recruits coming into the force.

Assistant Commissioner Michael Corboy and Assistant Commissioner Paul Carey are both responsible for drafting this new policy, which recommends a new standard for cadets.

"This is about professionalism, it's about proper discipline and how you carry yourself in public," The Sunday Telegraph quoted Corboy, who also heads the Education and Training Command, as saying.

He questioned the need for such visible tattoos on the body of a police officer.

"We've identified more recruits coming in with full arm tattoos, or tattoos on their legs, and obviously some are on their necks and faces," he said.

"Does the community want someone knocking on their door with a Mike Tyson tattoo on their face or neck? I don't think so," he added. (ANI)
